Jan Basso has spent over 40 years in the field of post-secondary career development and experiential learning and is a nationally-recognized leader who is committed to sharing her expertise with colleagues. Her career has focussed on the development and delivery of comprehensive programs and services which have enabled students to identify and realize their educational and career goals. Her experience includes strategic planning, development of organizational structures and practices, partnership development, graduate outcome surveys, assessment strategies, and the development and implementation of information systems to support these operations. She has both led and participated on external reviews at other institutions related to the delivery of experiential learning and career services. In her current role, she is directly responsible for the development, management and support of experiential learning at the institution, and for ensuring career development is an integral part of the student experience.
Most recently, Jan’s experience includes providing leadership in the implementation of an enterprise system to support career services and experiential learning, launch of the Laurier Experience Record which captures a student’s engagement in curricular and co-curricular experiential learning, development of institutional Experience Guides, and the an institution-wide inventory of experiential learning in curriculum. Laurier is a leader in the field of post-secondary career development, having been recognized with the highest score among Canadian post-secondary institutions with the most impressive models of career services (CERIC 2017).
