Simran Bakshi is a fourth-year student at Western University where she is completing her Honours Specialization in Biology. Her interest in health policy began in 2019 when she was provided the opportunity to conduct a 149-study scoping review which analyzed knowledge, misconceptions, risk perception, and behaviour change during pandemics which was published in the Public Understanding of Science. In 2021, she was able to publish her first-authored systematic review which examined student behaviour during pandemics. Through her internship with the Antarctic Institute of Canada, she was able to write several books in the areas of medical, human, and physical sciences. This past summer, she was a Research Assistant Intern at the national career accelerator, Accelerate Her Future, where she conducted a literature review to examine studies on BIWOC experiences within higher education business and STEM programs in Canada. She continues to pursue research opportunities which prioritize to the mobilization of scientific knowledge into policymaking.
